Build a Teacher/Student Collaborative Website with Google Sites–Part 6–Resources & DropBox

by on February 19, 2011

This is the last installment of Building a Teacher/Student Collaborative Website with Google Sites!  We have covered many topics that require the bare minimum of technical skills.

Today, we finish off the series by talking about collecting student work via Dropbox and how to make it very easy.  In addition, I’ll give you links to tons of Google Sites resources so you can investigate more of what is possible on Google Sites.

Collecting Student Work the Easy Way!

I believe every educator should take a look at Dropbox.  What is Dropbox?

Once you have signed up for DropBox, you may want to take a look at one of my more popular posts: “The Complete Dropbox for Educators” at some point.  But for now, we’ll take a look at another post “Use DROPitTOme as a Drop.io Replacement” This post shows you how you can set up your Dropbox account in conjunction with DROPitTOme to collect student work easily.

Once you have that done, it is a simple matter to add a place on your Google Site to make it even easier!  Watch now:

Google Sites Dropbox Feature

You’re now able to collect student work easily and have access to it everywhere!

Finally, as you get better and better at administering your new classroom site, you may want to learn even more.  We have managed to create a great site without a steep learning curve. But as lifelong learners, you’re yearning for more!  Here it is:

I have used drop box in my class when students needed to link to a file. Worked well, but then something went wrong with our webfilter and students can no longer upload. Real bummer!

I use Edmodo for students turning work in electronically. Great thing is I can grade it on that site and divide the students into classes. Also it is completely free and students do not need email addresses.

Webfilters–what would we do without them! :)

Edmodo is a great tool/alternative as well. The free part and no email is definitely a plus as it makes life easier. Thanks for the comment!

I am “Google-eyed” for Google and all of its tools. I have used Dropbox for a good while now and love it!. No matter where I go, as long as I have my cell phone, iPad, laptop with an internet connection, I have my docs. This has been so very useful as well in planning presentations with others through sharing files in my Dropbox, especially with the ISTE conferences. When we finally meet there, we have all put in what we needed for our presentations in the Dropbox. Of course, I always have a back up either in Google Docs or on a flash drive, but I have never had to use them. Great tools shared and a great series. I have shared this as well. Keep them coming! @iTechSpec

Thanks for your comment Anita! I love Dropbox as well–as you mentioned it’s a great way to share resources. I love the fact that you use multiple solutions for backup as I wrote a post yesterday about Dropbox being down for a while yesterday.

Thanks for your kind words and have a great weekend!
